The Moroccan Children’s Trust (MCT) is delighted to present a major art exhibition that will take place at Brixton East from 30 August until 1 September 2013 with a private viewing on 29 August. This exhibition aims to look at the concept of âHomeâ â what makes a building or environment a home? How do we define the boundaries of what makes a home? How does the ideal of this home match the reality of how we live?
2013 saw the beginning of a new programme in Taroudannt: The Art Project, through which local artists provide art lessons to the children, offering them an alternative way to spend their time rather than on the street. The reach of our Art Project extends beyond our belief in informal education; it also helps children develop their talents, explore new interests and acquire transferrable skills that could lead to a future career.
The sessions have been highly successful and the twenty children who attend regularly have learnt many new skills. Their enthusiasm for the project encouraged us to seek out artistic contacts here in London to put together an exhibition that will combine works from Morocco and the UK.
To reflect our work with street-connected children, we have chosen the concept of âHomeâ as the theme for our art exhibition. Its title, âHome Street Home,â was also used for the International Day for Street Children 2013 organised by the Consortium for Street Children.
The artists in this show will bring together their own interpretations of home and the complexity that stems from this simple word.
In the beautiful loft setting of Brixton East, we will try to make you feel at HOME whilst offering you the chance to appreciate a dynamic reflection on the concept of Home, involving different kinds of artistic contributions: from photography installations and paintings to videos.
We look forward to seeing you at Brixton East in London for our art exhibition!
