Testimonial of ‘Amie officielle’, Buddy to International Volunteers, Hajar Korda

‘Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, ‘What! You too? I thought I was the only one’

C.S. Lewis

The friendships I have made through being the official friend or buddy of international volunteers with Fondation Amane pour la Protection de l’Enfance are some of the best experiences of my life. The experience has showed me that when it comes to making friends age and differences don’t matter, as long as we have things to talk about. hajar-and-verity

At first, I had no idea what it would mean to be a buddy, but this quickly became a thing of the past as soon as I met the first volunteer who I would befriend. The first volunteer was Elsa from Norway, she was the same age as me. The second volunteer was Yvonne from the UK who was older than me.

I have way too many favorite moments from the experience with these volunteers to put into words. From the times we spent at the Centre Amane helping children as part of our volunteer work to the times we spent exploring our city and other cities, learning all about Morocco and tasting Moroccan cuisine. We spent time talking about culture and celebrations in both countries, they tried Moroccan Henna and even tried on traditional clothes!

To sum up, being a buddy is an experience which remains alive in my memory, and I invite every volunteer to have the same experience at least one time in their life.
